Frank Pinto from Morris County came before the Roxbury town council about one month ago and announced to us that they will use Federal Stimulus dollars ( your taxes) to rehab the rail line that runs alongside the pathway in the back of Horseshoe Lake and into the old Westinghouse plant.
By rehabilitating the line they propose to put traffic on it. Traffic issues = safety issues. It looks like they have to take away 18 FT of the paved pathway for a safety zone. This means there will no longer be a walkway around the lake, there will no longer be vehicular traffic allowed behind the lake, It is even possible that we will lose 2 ball fields if this goes through.
Congressman Frelinghuysen has scheduled a Congressional Town Hall Meeting in Roxbury from 9 am to 10 am this Saturday, May 9. It will be in the Community Room (aka Old Council Chambers) at Horseshoe Lake, 72 Eyland Ave. Please use the Recreation Door to enter.
We need your voices LOUD and Clear, Stop this project. Contact your freeholders and tell them NO. Attend this meeting. We all need to get involved to keep Horseshoe Lake Park the beautiful place that it is.

Let's not make judgements before we know all the facts Anne (isnt that your thing? waiting and waitng and waiting to give you opinion until you know all the facts?)
ReplyDeleteAcording to the county our township may have built these walking trails illegally without the proper documentation (or zoning from the county) these tracks were there and operationg when the trails were built. we built the trail near the tracks not vice versa. and it has not been confirmed that any land would need to be taken from our parks. lets' find out how much tax dollars this could generate for the town and how many jobs it could provided. may be the fedreal funding can be use for additional town projects, including a protective barrier between the trail and the tracks...i guess i expected more from you based on the little u gave us about u during your campaign.
