I had the honor of attending the Top 10 Awards dinner last night. This dinner was to honor those students who finished HS in the top 10 of their class this year. I was amazed at the drive that these students have and their quest for knowledge. They will be going off to colleges like Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Boston, etc. I couldn't keep up with the amount of Honors and AP classes they had taken. Amazingly, many seemed to also be involved with various extra curricular activities.
What also impressed me was the relationships they had with their teachers that they chose to honor. Each student brought a teacher with them to share the evening - someone who they felt had an impact on them during their time at RHS. It was clear that these relationships developed beyond a normal student/teacher relationship as many spoke of receiving advice on colleges, careers, and life in general. Many students said that their teachers made them better students, but the teachers also said the students helped them to become better teachers.
I wish these students, and all of the graduating class of RHS, the best of success in the future. As a community we should be proud of the young adults we are sending out into the world. They've worked hard to get here - and now it is their time to shine.
Congratulations Class of 2009!
