As a board member, I have taken a lot of abuse over the past year. I have been called a liar, unethical, accused of hiding things, and accused of only doing things that benefit my children. All of this because I am doing what I believe to be right and trying to volunteer in my community. And no - I don't get paid to do this.
At tonight's meeting a member of the public was the target of a comment made by another member of the public. Whether that person agreed with the speaker or not, she deserved the respect to be able to speak. The behavior was inexcusable - and he should be ashamed of himself.

Good for you Annette. You are right on this one. The person you are speaking about, who was a member of the REA union, was rude when he heckled a member of the public trying to speak her mind. He should be ashamed! Get up to the table and speak. Don't heckle from the crowd!
ReplyDeleteAnnette: perhaps you missed the nasty remark the "lady" made about special ed kids? that was uncalled for and very offensive to a lot of us. even those of us who don't have "kids attending private schools at taxpayer expense" , as this "member of the public" put it. Her remark was uncalled for and inexcusable. And this "lady" was "heckling" from the audience all night, when she wasn't speaking, so she didn't respect anyone else's rights.
ReplyDeleteI didn't hear her heckling as well - so I apologize for missing that. In a room that size it is difficult to hear what goes on on the other side - which is why I heard the one comment that was said but many others did not. As for the special ed comment - I did forget about that - and you are very right. That was an extremely nasty and uncalled for remark.
ReplyDeleteI honestly just wish there was a point where people could speak to each other like adults with respect and consideration. The remarks that get thrown around - the verbally abusive comments that are made - they are all ridiculous.
